Feature

Apple Health and Health Connect

Plates syncs your completed workouts and body weight measurements to Apple Health (iOS) and Google Health Connect (Android) automatically. Your strength training data shows up alongside your runs, sleep, and other health metrics without any manual entry.

What syncs

Workout sessions

Every completed workout writes to your health platform as a strength training (or HIIT for interval workouts) session:

  • Start and end time
  • Total duration
  • Workout name
  • Activity type (strength/HIIT)

Body weight and body fat

Weight and body-fat entries logged in Plates sync to your health platform. Optionally import past entries from Apple Health or Health Connect into Plates:

  • Log in kg, lb, or stones; Plates writes the canonical kg value
  • Body fat percentage, read and write
  • Timestamp per entry
  • Bidirectional (write + optional import)

Active energy

Plates estimates the calories you burned during a session using a MET-based model modulated by your volume load and bodyweight, then writes that active-energy figure to your health platform:

  • Estimated by Plates, not left blank
  • Credited to Move rings and daily activity
  • Available to apps like MyFitnessPal and the Fitness app

How it works

Privacy-first design

Plates never reads health data you didn't explicitly allow. The permission request only asks for the specific data types you've enabled in settings. Your health data stays on-device (Apple Health and Health Connect are both local-first), and Plates never uploads it to any server.

Sleep-based training readiness

If you allow it, Plates can read last night's sleep from Apple Health or Health Connect to pre-fill your pre-workout readiness check. A short night nudges the readiness rating down, which in turn makes the suggestion engine more conservative that day. It's optional, off by default, and never requires manual entry.

Why integrate?

Pair this with the Plates Apple Watch app and Dynamic Island and Live Activity support to run a whole session from your wrist and lock screen.
