Privacy Policy
Last Updated: April 2026
Introduction
Plates ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our fitness tracking application.
Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect:
- Email address (for email sign-in)
- Authentication tokens from Google or Apple (for social sign-in)
- A unique user identifier
Workout Data
We collect workout information you provide, including:
- Exercise names and details
- Sets, reps, and weights
- Workout duration and timestamps
- Custom exercises you create
- Gym configurations and plate setups
- Body measurements and weight entries (if you choose to track them)
Device Information (Signed-In Users)
When you are signed in, we may collect:
- Device type and operating system version
- App version
- Crash reports and performance data (to improve app stability)
- Anonymous usage analytics (to understand feature usage)
Analytics and Crash Reports
Plates uses Firebase Analytics to understand feature usage and Firebase Crashlytics to diagnose bugs. What we collect depends on how you use the app:
- Signed-in users: Anonymized usage events (screens visited, features used) are sent automatically and tied to your Plates user ID, an internal identifier that is not your email or name. Your user ID is not shared with third parties. No workout data, body measurements, photos, or personal notes are ever included in analytics events.
- Local-only users (not signed in): Analytics are off by default. You may opt in via Settings, Privacy, Help Improve Plates, in which case anonymized events are sent with no user ID attached.
- Crash reports are always sent in release builds to help fix bugs that affect everyone. A crash report contains the stack trace and device model, never your content.
Signed-in users who wish to opt out of analytics can sign out and use the app locally, then leave the Help Improve Plates toggle off. You can also delete your account and all associated data from Profile, Delete Account.
Local-Only Mode (Not Signed In)
When you use the app without signing in:
- All your workout, body, and photo data is stored locally on your device only
- No data is sent to our servers unless you explicitly enable Help Improve Plates in Settings
How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide and maintain the app's functionality
- Sync your workout data across devices (signed-in users only)
- Calculate workout statistics and track your progress
- Send workout reminder notifications (if enabled)
- Improve app performance and fix bugs
- Develop new features based on usage patterns
Data Storage and Security
Cloud Storage (Signed-In Users)
If you sign in with an account, your data is stored securely in Firebase (Google Cloud) with:
- Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
- Secure authentication
- Data isolation between users
Local Storage (Not Signed In)
If you use the app without signing in, your data is stored locally on your device only. No workout data, exercises, or personal information is transmitted to any server unless you explicitly opt in to anonymous analytics.
Data Retention
Your data is retained as long as your account is active. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from the app settings.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties except:
- With service providers who assist in app operations (listed below)
- When required by law or to protect our legal rights
- With your explicit consent
