Plates is operated by Michael Ryan ("we," "our," or "us"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard information when you use our fitness tracking and automated training-guidance application. Contact us at support@myplates.app.
Plates exists to help you track your training. The data described below is your data. The App processes it to provide tracking, progress views, and personalized fitness suggestions, and to sync across your devices when you sign in. We do not sell your personal workout data or use it for advertising. Limited access may be necessary to provide support you request, investigate reliability or security problems, or comply with law; access is restricted to the purpose and people who need it.

When you explicitly agree in the App, it records the versions and content identifiers of the terms and Privacy Policy presented, the exercise-risk acknowledgment revision, and the acceptance time reported by your device. A local copy is stored on your device or in your browser, separated between local use and signed-in accounts. If you are signed in, the App also sends the receipt to your account's Firebase storage and records when the server receives it. If you are offline or the upload fails, the receipt remains pending locally for a later retry. Guest receipts are not uploaded or converted into account acceptance.
We keep these limited records to document the agreement and notices presented. They are not independent identity or age checks. For each document version, your account retains the first successfully recorded server receipt; agreeing again on another device does not replace that receipt's timestamps. Signed-in server receipts remain with your account until account deletion; local copies remain until cleared from app or browser storage or through account deletion on that device. Clearing storage, changing accounts, or a material terms update may require you to agree again. A copy on another device may remain until that device's storage is cleared.
Legal acknowledgment does not authorize contribution of your training records to model development, and it does not change your Help Improve Plates setting, whose defaults are described under Optional Usage and Performance Telemetry below. It is separate from health-platform permissions and any optional sharing choice.
To keep the app stable and improve it over time, we collect limited technical information:
Plates uses Firebase Analytics to understand coarse feature usage, Firebase Performance to measure app responsiveness and reliability, and Firebase Crashlytics to diagnose bugs.
Crash reports are collected in release builds under our legitimate interest in providing a stable, functional app (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). A crash report contains only the stack trace, device model, OS version, and a pseudonymous installation identifier. It never contains your workout data, body measurements, photos, or personal notes. Crash data is retained for 90 days.
The single "Help Improve Plates" preference controls both Firebase Analytics and Firebase Performance. In the iOS and Android apps, its starting value depends on the region in your device settings, not your location:
Analytics events include coarse feature usage, such as bucketed workout counts or durations, and Performance measures app startup, network timing, and four coarse workout-operation traces. Exact workout durations and counts, weights, reps, exercise identities, body measurements, photos, and personal content are never included. Turning the preference off stops both Analytics and Performance collection. Crashlytics follows the separate crash-reporting policy above.
This marketing website (myplates.app and its pages, including this one) offers optional Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate traffic, such as page views, referring site, and approximate region. This is separate from the in-app analytics described above and applies only when you browse the website in a normal browser, not when you use the app. Plates sends no Google Analytics request until you explicitly choose "Allow analytics." Your choice is saved in this browser.
If your browser sends a recognized Do Not Track signal, Plates treats it as a hard denial even if you previously allowed analytics. You can deny or withdraw consent at any time below. Withdrawing consent updates Google Analytics to denied for the current page and prevents it from loading on future pages. The website does not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
When you use the app without signing in:

Personal adaptive learning uses your training data to tailor your own experience. This is different from using your records to train a shared model for other users. Acceptance of these terms or this policy does not authorize that shared-model use. We do not use your training data to build advertising profiles or show you ads. Any future optional contribution of training records to improve shared models requires a separate explanation and choice before collection for that purpose.
If you sign in, your synced data is stored in Firebase (Google Cloud) in an account-specific document space. App access rules separate your records from other users. Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest. This is not end-to-end encryption: authorized service-provider systems and restricted administrative access can process records for the purposes described in this policy.
If you use the app without signing in, all your workout and fitness data stays on your device. The only data that leaves your device is crash reports and (if enabled) coarse usage and performance telemetry, neither of which contain your personal content. In-app telemetry remains scoped to Firebase's pseudonymous app-instance or installation identifiers and carries no Plates or Firebase account user ID, email address, or name.
If you turn on health syncing in Settings, Plates can write your completed workouts, weight, and body fat to Apple Health (or Health Connect on Android), and can read your weight, body fat, and last night's sleep to keep your progress in sync and suggest training readiness. This integration is off by default and you control it per data type.
Health records that Plates writes are independent copies that you own and control in your platform's Health app. They are not mirrored to our servers. Removing data inside Plates, including deleting your Plates account, does not delete the copies already written to Apple Health or Health Connect. To remove those, use the Health app's own data controls, where you can review and delete anything Plates has written.
Your data is retained as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from the app settings. Account deletion runs a server-side process that erases your cloud data (workouts, exercises, programs, settings, photos, and shared-workout links), removes your subscription customer record from our payments processor, and deletes your sign-in identity. Data stored on your device is also cleared, including pending notifications, any active Live Activity, and the workout state mirrored to a paired Apple Watch. Health records previously written to Apple Health or Health Connect are not affected (see above). Deleting your Plates account does not cancel an active App Store or Google Play subscription: manage or cancel that separately in your store account settings.

Plates is not intended for children under 13, or below a higher applicable minimum age of digital consent. We do not knowingly collect personal information from users below that minimum. Where a user is not old enough to enter a binding agreement, a parent or legal guardian must review and agree to the terms. We do not collect a date of birth through the legal acknowledgment or independently verify a guardian's identity. If you believe a child below the applicable minimum has provided personal information, contact support@myplates.app so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or via email.
